Better Homes & Dollhouses

Last Christmas my sister-in-law Katie gave Adah and Maggie these adorable Mini Me paper dolls.  She designed them to look like the girls and they came with membership in an outfit-of-the-month club.  I get monthly emails with new outfits that we can print out.  Adah and Maggie just love them.  (Maggie tried to give her doll green eyes, so we need to print out a new one.)

Right at the end of the summer and into the beginning of the school year, the girls built and decorated their own dollhouse.  Maggie took these photos of it, which are not the greatest.  What she lacks in photography skills, though, she and Adah make up for in creativity.

They turned our little kid table on it's side (the underneath side of the tabletop is the back wall of the house) and then place a piece of wood atop the horizontal brace that goes between the legs and a small wooden shelf that could stradle the whole thing towards the back.  (Did that make sense?  You can see it below.)

They used boxes (cake mix, I think) as beds and covered them with paper towel comforters that they decorated with pens.  Small round wash cloths (knitted by Nana) made for perfect area rugs.

Here's Mini Maggie in bed on her cotton ball pillow.

"Downstairs" are two chairs with pom-pom pillows.

 

It even had a flat-screen TV.

In the week or so that the girls had the dollhouse installed in the family room, there were several other furnishings and details that went undocumented by the camera.  They spent hours happily playing together, creating stories and domestic designs.  I loved seeing their imaginations work to turn small everyday objects into miniatures of other everyday objects.
