August 31, 2011: Maggie started the first grade with silver shoes and a colorful new outfit. (And that's our doorbell that looks like a bun coming out of the side of her head. Sorry.)
She actually did have a fancy new hairdo--two braids crossing and then joining into one pony tail. Major stuff for the first grade, here, folks.
Also on August 31, 2011: Adah began the third grade wearing spiffy white tennis shoes, new blue jeans, and a cute plaid tunic.
Her hairdo was a little less fancy, but if Maggie was getting a picture of the back of her head, Adah had to have one, too.
Adah was eager for the first view of her classroom. We had visited the school the day before because some of the teachers had their rooms open for a few hours to help alleviate actual first-day jitters, but Adah's teacher wasn't there.
Her teacher this year is Ms. Mosnot. Adah buttered her up right from the get go by giving her a gift. This was all Adah's idea. At the end of the summer Adah saw a beaded necklace with a little schoolhouse and apple (or similar teacher-y stuff) on it at the local thrift store and wanted to buy it for her teacher. I wasn't sure how it would go over, but Ms. Mosnot graciously put it on and wore it the whole first day. Ms. Mosnot is a knitter, which is something Adah is pursuing right now, so that's a fun thing for them to share. Adah loves having her own desk in third grade--a first.
Maggie has TWO homeroom teachers this year. Mrs. Petrick is on the left and Mrs. Dennis is on the right. Mrs. Petrick is there in the morning, eats lunch with the kids and takes them out to recess, and then Mrs. Dennis brings them in from lunch recess and is there for the afternoon. Since Maggie spends much of the morning in her reading class with Mrs. Hope and then in gym, music, enrichment class, or the library, she doesn't see Mrs. Petrick a whole lot. I still accidentally call Mrs. Dennis "Mrs. Denny" since that was Maggie's kindergarten teacher. Fortunately Maggie is not getting confused with all these different teachers.
